At a planned White House meeting with Harvard professor Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge, Mass. police Sgt. James Crowley it is anticipated that President Obama will enjoy an ice cold Bud Light, while Crowley prefers Blue Moon and Gates reportedly favors Jamaica’s Red Stripe beer.
That of course being the major focus of the news media about Thursday’s White House Beer Fest. No one seems to be focusing on the fact that Obama stepped on his manhood when the “post-racial” president went on live TV to declare that the Cambridge police “acted stupidly” after Gates’ arrest in his home.
The facts of the case are as follows:
Follow up:
1. Obama didn’t have all the facts. 2. He has no standing to make any declaration at all in this case. 3. He declared the Cambridge, Mass police at fault and passed judgment on their actions. 4. Barack Obama is the most powerful man in the world and he made the same mistake he’s been making since before he was elected: he believes he has all the answers and anyone who disagrees with him is “stupid".
I served in our armed forces and I know what an honor it is to be invited to a sit-down with any President of the United States (I personally would have wanted to meet Bill Clinton and get some tips on picking up chicks). But I think Sgt. Crowley should accept this meeting on two conditions: First, it must be publicly televised and second it must include apologies from both Professor Gates and the President.
As outrageous as that may seem, not only Sgt. Crowley, but the entire Cambridge police department is owed an apology.
While Gates and Obama want us to focus on the arrest itself, we must put aside Obama’s Jedi Mind Trick and look at the context in which it happened. Police received a 911 call that a home may be being broken into. Police are well aware that this neighborhood has been plagued by a rash of burglaries recently. The 911 caller states that two men are shouldering their way into the home and speculates that they can’t get their key to work. This particular home was one of the homes that has been broken into. Police arrive and Gates states that he lives there but refuses to produce his I.D., becoming more and more belligerent.
You make the call.
I’m certain the police have never had a criminal suspect lie to them at the scene of a crime so there is no reason for them to doubt Gates’ word at the scene, regardless of race, correct?
This issue was overblown because of the President’s untimely and inappropriate comments. In other words, President Obama acted stupidly.
So Mr. Obama don’t forget to ask the most important question you new job requires: “Would you like pretzels with that beer?”
