I woke up this morning, like every morning, with my mind immediately going into overdrive about the day ahead. Appointments, schedules, job deadlines and on and on…
Then it dawned on me what day it was: Post-Election Day. So I went downstairs, turned on the tube and checked Fox. There it was in big bold letters. ALERT: President-elect Obama. A letdown? Yes.
Next I checked to see the outcome of the Senate and House. No filibuster-proof majority. A relief? Again, yes. Perhaps a fighting chance remains… but not very likely if this election strategy is any indication of future events.
So, this is the reality we have to deal with. Like most small business owners across this country, my outlook for the future has been turned upside down. I start today and will remain for a great while in full-blown defense mode. It is now an absolute certainty that a growing percentage of the product of my business efforts in the years to come will be taken from me by this Administration.

Let me make it clear that I did not support this man before this election. Not because of his color but because of his radical philosophy. I do not support him now and will not support him and his Administration as we move forward. This is a matter of principle for me. The gulf between the traditional America and his vision of the new America could not be wider. I am a Conservative and he is a Socialist. Not Liberal, not Left, but far, far Left. Socialist. Plain and simple. Not a debatable point.
In John McCain’s concession speech, he spoke about all Americans coming together to support the new President. He speaks about working together to solve the country’s problems. He speaks like this because this is who he is. He is a good man but he is a Moderate. Not Right. Not Left. Moderate. Plain and simple. Not a debatable point.
I was not an enthusiastic supporter of John McCain. I voted for him because as Thomas Sowell said,” I will vote for McCain because I’d rather deal with a disaster than a catastrophe”. I do not support the Left at all or the Right as constituted today and especially not the Moderate middle.
Moderates believe that being fair and compromising will get fairness and compromise in return. I firmly believe that because Moderates have approached dealing with Liberals in this fashion, they have been successful in paving the road for the Left in this country. Barack Obama the radical Marxist as the President is the result of this approach.
While the election of the first black President is an historic event in and of itself, my perspective on this point as a Conservative is somewhat different from the elated view held by the media. The Conservative view is and always has been that anyone can be anything in America. I’m not surprised that the country can elect any person of any race, religion or sex to any position. True Conservatives have always looked at events like this as a validation of the greatness of the United States. Congratulations but no big whoop, so to speak. Barack Obama the first black President is the result of this approach.
As President, Obama will most certainly do major damage to the traditional American perspective. The impact of his mark on America will be an open wound and will be felt for the next 30 plus years. The division between people in this country will be widened with each new day he is in office. As it becomes more apparent just how opposite the Socialists are from the vast majority of Americans, these divisions will become more firmly entrenched.
Some people fear this will mean all people of color will be judged by the results of this man’s actions. I suppose there will be an element like that but it most certainly will not be the attitude of any true Conservative. Just as sure as we believe anyone can achieve anything in America, we also know that anyone can screw up anything in America. Our perspective is that each person’s actions have consequences and personal accountability is mandatory. But it’s the person who is accountable, not others who happen to have any similarity of race, religion or sex to the culprit.
What really bothers those of us in the Conservative camp is the high likelihood that many people who will feel the negative impact on their lives from this election will simply not understand why it’s happening. They may well (in ever-increasing numbers) continue to buy into the Liberal media onslaught that tells them it’s all going to be fixed if they just continue to vote for the same group over and over again. There is precedent for this already.
Worse yet, they may even come to accept mediocrity as a universal norm. Thanks in large part to the dumbing-down of the American education system (where nobody told them that Socialism is the soft word for Communism), a large percentage of the population may just give up and go along. It may well wear down many highly creative individuals who would otherwise have made a positive difference in our society. We face a distinct possibility that the United States could have a brain-drain similar to that which occurred in Great Britain back in the 70’s and 80’s. If that floodgate ever opens, there won’t be any turning back.
I suppose Rush’s quote has a place here for those of us who don’t take this lightly. He says, “I want to implore you to never abandon the idea of being the best you can be, regardless who’s running the country, because it’s people like you pursuing excellence that will give this country a chance to survive.” Let’s hope another Ronald Reagan-type is out there somewhere because the Republican (Moderate) Party as it stands today is working hard on paving the highway to Hell.
