I am disappointed and fed up with the media. I was watching Fox News and MSNBC on Sunday to see how hurricane Gustav was shaping up and they stopped coverage of a devastating and life-changing event to bring us the new breaking story “Sarah Palin’s 17 year old daughter is pregnant”. I could not believe what I was hearing. They stopped reporting on a potentially deadly disaster to tell us about something that should have no place even in the news let alone “Breaking News”.
Teenage pregnancy happens all over the United States and rest of the world from below poverty line families to the upper crust and celebrity families. The media is so obsessed with the so called “baby bump”. Every time I look at any news on the internet I see an article about this celebrity is showing a “baby bump” Are they pregnant?? Who cares?? For all they know she could have had a bad week, skipped the gym, just ate an entire cheesecake, is bloated and getting ready to start her period. BIG DEAL!! The media needs to focus on the real news like our

men and women in the military fighting for our country, the people who just dodged a major disaster from Gustav, keeping an eye on the other tropical storms in the Atlantic and the issues that will effect the next 4 years of our country. The real issues like medical care, housing market, immigration and taxes.
Barack Obama’s mother was 17, unwed and pregnant, got married secretly and he turned out just fine. I think that the Palin’s are doing the right thing in standing by their daughter and giving her the support she needs and setting a good example for families facing the same issue in their lives. I have heard people call Palin a hypocrite – that is the furthest thing from my mind. If she were a hypocrite she would have whisked her daughter away for an abortion and tried to hide it.
I look at Sarah Palin and her family. She has 5 children, her husband works for a living, her son is in the military, her youngest has Downs Syndrome and her 17 year old is pregnant. She by far is the only person of the bunch of McCain, Obama and Biden who most represents a “real life family”. Does that better equip her to relate to the “regular” American family? I think it absolutely does! Do you think these experiences will cause her to advocate for affordable health insurance? What about teen pregnancy and family planning counseling? What about assistance for families with physically handicapped individuals? If anything this may even get her to change her mind about Abstinence Only sex education.
I look at all the digging and rooting around that the media is doing on Sarah Palin and her family and I have to wonder how many well qualified and brilliant individuals have refused to go into a pubic service type of position such as President, U.S. Representative or Senator, or even running for local or statewide office because they didn’t want to put their families through such biased scrutiny. That is our loss.
I understand the need to look into the background of such candidates but this is out of hand. They are making a 15 minute conversation right now about how Palin’s husband got a DUI 22 years ago. Who doesn’t have someone in their family who has had this happen or worse? How about the Kennedys? George W. Bush was an alcoholic, and Barack Obama used both marijuana and cocaine, and by his own admission, he inhaled.
No one is perfect. Look at the Bush daughter’s – Look at Cindy McCain – Look at Bill and Hilary – Al Gore – I wish someone would drill into some of these new reporters and their family’s lives and put it all out there on the front page for them to answer their own wrong doings or slight indiscretions.
I have been watching the news for the past 30 minutes and I have heard so much questioning about John McCain’s judgment and how big of a mistake he made in choosing Sarah Palin and how she is just a heartbeat away from being President. They have actually said “heartbeat away from the Presidency” 7 times in the past 30 minutes. Not one of these news sources questioned Hillary Clinton’s desire to run for President, though her resume` is only slightly thicker than Obama’s non-existent one. She at least has a failed attempt to socialize our health care system while Bill was in the White House (thank God that failed). Not one of these sources questioned Barack Obama’s judgment in his associations with terrorists (Obama’s political career was launched in the living room of William Ayers, founder of The Weathermen, who bombed police stations and the U.S. Capitol, and who later stated that they “didn’t do enough”), and America-hating radicals (the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, in whose church Obama sat for over 20 years and he now wants you to believe he never realized what Wright stood for).
When the story of Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy broke (I’m not even sure they reported the daughter’s name) Senator Obama told his team that families are off limits. Of note is that he didn’t include that direction to the media covering his campaign. Think maybe he knows they’ll do his dirty work anyway?

It looks like you've smacked this one right on the kisser and out of the park. It's called the sweet spot. You could not have been more to the point and correct with your assessments of the media coverage of the issue (make that non-issue).
The daughter's pregnancy has been blown up by the media so much that some voters may be scratching their heads and starting to believe that Bristol is the VP candidate and not Sarah.

why did the media not question why hillary was running for president, she told them when she announced her candidacy, no news there. the ayers connection, blogger fodder, obama attended a function at ayers home attended by a number of chicago politicos. why was he there because ayers is a renowned and distinguished professor of education in chicago. when he was doing his SDS thing let's see obama was 6, 7 years old. why didn't he leave the church after the hateful spouting of an old preacher who lived through segregation and racial bigotry, you really think if every sermon was on hate and raling about america he would have much of a congregation left. why didn't he leave sooner, why didn't the catholics leave when all of the perv priests were outed. one last thing palen is a grad from a college in idaho with a degree in mass communications and worked in the media business for a short time, sports reporter, go figure.
